Directors Update - February!

Hey everyone!

It really has been super hectic at YFC lately, but in a truly thrilling way!

St Bede's

We're getting more familiar with the inside of the school, having spent a whole day teaching in early February, on sex and relationships. It's a real experience of 'joined up' work as in almost every class we see familiar faces from youth events, and at break and lunchtimes others come up who recognise us from our church links.

In every available moment we were chatting to one of the young lads who attended our Go East youth cafe and events last summer.

Steve Creamer is assisting teachers with young people of special educational or behavioural needs every Monday. They even offered him a full time job to carry on!

And all this was a follow up from the previous days lower school assembly, which saw Jim dusting down the old guitar to perform live music! One of the kids saw him the next day and shouted 'you're a good singer', which made a nice change!

SOURCE Termly

Three times a year, we organise a gathering for fulltimers for discussion, prayer and encouragement. The January meet at Comberton Baptist Church saw us joined by one of the Romsey Mill team for the first time. Jim did a short introduction on how to evaluate our ministry, and then we spent time discussing 11-14's ministry and the place for working together. Amid the doughnuts and bacon butties, there was some good stuff going on, and several have been in touch since saying how much they appreciated the time together.

Cambridge United Tours

20 young people from Lode Chapel joined the first Cambridge United Tour of 2008. Chris is co-ordinating the project this year as our links with the club continue to grow. The February tour will include an entire team of lads from Great Wilbraham who will also see some involvement on the pitch during the match day formalities!

Give Yourself A Break

We've been touring various youth groups over recent weeks, teaching on 'How to be a star' taking our text from Philippians 2:14-16. Visiting All Saints Milton, Royston, Queen Edith Chapel, Waterbeach Baptist, St Barnabas among others, we've used the opportunity to promote what's happening under Hope Revolution in 2008. It's alwasy great to get out and meet young people and see the wonderful and faithful work being done by volunteers all over the place. Our message has been aimed at encouraging Christian young people to 'shine line stars in the universe' by quitting the moan culture, aiming for purity and holding out the word of life, confidently commending the gospel to others.

XCellr8 2008

Scripture Union's popular weekend residential for 8-11 year olds not only featured our very own Chris Lewney on the leadership team, but also a YFC Roadshow on the saturday night. Some of our favourite games, including 'Brain of a Vegetable', and 'Celebrity 2 Word Tango' made a welcome return, and Jim presented a mini talk about being 'the light of the world'. The evening closed with one of the leaders being gunged by popular demand!

Hope Revolution Schools Challenge

We were really encouraged to see 20 young people turn up for the training event on Feb 3rd, representing 7 local schools and colleges between them. If you haven't caught up yet, Schools Challenge is one of 2 main thrusts of Hope Revolution in Cambridge & District. Young people are challenged to simply do something positive to bless their school during the month of April. Our launch event on March 14th will help in the build up, and after the projects have taken place will be hosting a party on May 9th.

The idea is that the whole thing becomes a crescendo of love in action all over the city as Christians live out their faith. We're also hoping that it wont be a one-off event, but will be a catalyst to see young people living confidently for Jesus in their schools.

Hills Road Outreach

Jim delivered a talk about 'The God Delusion' in the sixth form college last week, and for the next 5 Thursdays will be leading further discussion for those who want to know more. Based on the Christianity Explored course, please pray that many will come with open minds and that he will have the skill, the creativity and humility to answer questions and gently lead people to Jesus.

Thanks for all your support. Stick with us! God is amazing!!

Jim
