Carols On Ice!

Cool News! Churches in Cambridge will be joining forces with the Ice Rink on parkers piece for a special Carol service on Wednesday 17th December. A brand new initiative for the city, this will be a genuine opportunity to present the gift of Hope to Cambridge. With live music and loads of special guests, looks set to be a memorable night! Don’t miss it!

Exploration Station

This term, young people will be gathering from all over the region in an unusual place – Starbucks Coffee! The Retail Park store has agreed to play host to Exploration Station, a series of thought provoking presentations of the Christian message on Sunday nights from September. It’s an unprecedented opportunity! Over the course of the ten sessions, we aim to help young people from all backgrounds to get to grips with gospel issues. It’s like an Alpha course with a twist. We’re open to everyone aged 11+ and we expect it to be packed!

Meet The Newbies!

This term we welcome a new team of gap year volunteers on the national yfcone programme. These two 18 year olds will be serving with us until July 2009, running youth events and school CU meetings whilst being trained alongside a church based youth worker.

Kyle Armstrong
Born and raised in the Wirral, Kyle is excited to be serving God in Cambridge.
“I’m drawn to the exciting and fresh aspects of Cambridge & District YFC. I believe my whole life has been leading to this moment.”
Kyle loves leading worship, writing songs and working with young people.

Mark Watson
Mark is a keen drummer and bass guitarist from West Wickham in Kent.
“I’m passionate about young people hearing the gospel and seeing their lives change. I can’t wait to be part of the team!
He has previous experience of preaching, so watch out for him at a youth event near you!

We’re delighted to have two part time volunteers now serving as office administrators.

Katie Willingham from Histon Baptist Church works 8 hours a week keeping our database on track. She’s also a keen photographer and experienced in the art of snowboarding!

Holly Terrington from St Barnabas Church works 3 hours a week handling finances. Holly’s also on the youth team at the church and is known as a giggler!

Dan Jacobs also gives time to us once a week, editing video for our events and publicity. Dan’s training for a career as an electrician, and is a talented footballer!

Hope Revolution Summer

“I felt I was really being used by God.”
“The whole week inspired more than awe.”
“God has helped me get rid of some of my pride and helped me to focus on others.”
These are some of the comments from our “delegates”, the young people who took part in a week of mission this summer. In Hope Revolution, more than 100 people joined forces for social action and outreach projects, demonstrating the love of God in the community in Kings Hedges, Barnwell and Cherry Hinton.

Teams of delegates were placed in local churches who linked them up with painting, gardening and cleaning projects in their area. One of the Barnwell residents was so impressed with the work done by their team of teenage gardeners, they tried to pay them for the job!

Cherry Hinton Baptist Church hosted a youth cafĂ© for the second year running, and it’s great to see the work having a lasting impact. 2 girls we met last year are now regulars at church, and one young lad has just started playing drums at the service! As we left the site on Sunday, one 13 year old even promised to join the mission team next year!

We’re already planning for next Summer. Our goal is to see more young people having a fantastic experience of serving their community and sharing their faith in Jesus. If you’re interested in joining the team contact us!
